Guidance, case studies, websites and training materials available from the Newly Arrived Excellence Programme (NAEP) for primary and secondary schools receiving new arrivals.


This site offers “Pathways to learning for new arrivals” and has a lot of good information along with extremely helpful links for each section. Topics include background information on migration, countries of origin, children’s rights and entitlements, guidance for schools and teacher. There is also good advice on admissions procedures, initial assessment and placement.

An Interactive Survival Guide to teach some language for surviving in school.

 Cambridgeshire schools can access the subscription area of Little Learner free of charge to use helpful resources that speak to your pupils in Polish, Romanian and Lithuanian. 

emas4Success offers lots of excellent games for newly arrived pupils in KS1. There are games to learn school vocabulary, numbers, colours, everyday objects. These are free to download. Just select a game, print it off and laminate your cards. 

 
Myweb has been made by Slough and has sections on induction, assessment, early days, use of L1, access to the curriculum, and, under programmes, materials for pupils on step 1 and step 2 e.g. a booklet entitled “All About You”. 


Numeracy and literacy activities can be found here for beginners to English including card games and track games.

At Collaborative Learning.org you'll find lots of valuable, free, photocopiable activities here to support collaboration and talk. 

The emaonline website offers online support for ethnic minority attainment. Select EAL & Bilingual Resources for an excellent search facility to find online materials in a variety of languages including activities for pupils new to English.

Bilingual phrase books for beginners in English – available in Czech, English, German, Japanese, Polish, Portuguese, Russian, Spanish and Thai.


There are 14 standard primary school letters here on topics such as school visits, special assemblies or an accident in 31 languages.
